Scammers pose as UN Refugee Agency

By June 25, 2013October 14th, 2021Blog

Earlier this month, some opportunistic scammers posed as the UN Refugee Agency in a targeted scam campaign. The attack tricks victims into “making a donation to support Syria’s refugees”, coercing them to hand over all their credit card details. The email links to a fraudulent, unsecured website which directly collects what is supposed to be payment information. Although the site is not secured, it features a misleading Verified by Verisign logo in an attempt to add legitimacy.

Remember, it’s imperative that you research a website before ever entering personal information — even if it seems legitimate.
